Net Neutrality

An Open Letter to Mr. Ajit Pai of the FCC

Dear Mr. Pai, I have been a long-time skeptic of net neutrality, and I understand both the practical and the ethical reservations one might have of such legislation. Recently however I have finally come to be convinced that the laws which keep the "net neutral" are a crucial part of keeping the internet as productive and enjoyable as possible.

I hope that you will take the appropriate action to keep gigantic telecom companies in check, as I believe that they sadly will attempt to kill the goose which lays golden eggs in an effort to squeeze just a little more profit out of the enterprise. You hold an important position with regard to the security of the internet for generations to come- I believe it would be better for you to err on the side of caution, by regulating the internet service industry in accordance with the principles of Net Neutrality; rather than for you to err on the side of negligence by simply hoping that oligopolies will not attempt to eliminate the last vestiges of competition.

The free market is an incredible tool for growth- economically, technologically, and even sociologically. We must protect the free market by using legal measures to guarantee the opportunity for reasonable competition. Thank you for your time and your consideration.

Be excellent to each other, and party on.
